Artist Lecture: Autumn Hunnicutt

Artist Lecture at Trinidad State Boyd TCRM building (and virtual!)

5/1/25 5:30-6:30pm

Autumn Hunnicutt was born and raised in the high deserts of northern New Mexico. Her oil paintings explore ideas of cycles, memory, the natural world, and life experiences, often inspired by her southwestern roots and surrounding environments. Her work highlights the beauty of the natural world, giving a sense of holiness to the flora and fauna that inhabit the familiar land. Hunnicutt’s time living away from home in various states and backpacking across the Californian desert has deepened her respect for new encounters and familiarity. The human figure, landscape, plants, birds, and color are used to create stories of existence and experience. The use of color and symbolism in Hunnicutt’s paintings can be seen as a reflection of the southwest and a simultaneous longing for new experiences.

Artist Lecture: Talia Swartz Parsell

Artist Lecture at Trinidad State Boyd TCRM building (and virtual!)

10/2/25 5:30-6:30pm

Born in the small town of Maumee, Ohio, I spent the first part of my life in the Midwest. I’ve been an artist and a painter since I was a little girl and have been on this creative journey for most of my life. I studied art and education at the University of Toledo's Center for Visual Arts at the Toledo Art Museum campus. After three years as a full time art teacher, I was desperate for more landscape and more studio time. I moved out to Colorado over a decade ago where I earned a Masters Degree in Art and Painting at Adams State University and have called Denver home ever since. I currently reside and paint in northwest Denver and love to escape to the mountains and beautiful metroparks when I can. I am a mama to two very busy little boys who both inspire my work and drive me to keep pursuing my passion for painting. When I’m not parenting and painting, I teach private art lessons and help prospective students build their art portfolio in preparation for applying to art schools.

For the past few years, my work has focused on exploring the visual concepts of memory and place.

Uncommon Collective: Colorado Printmakers

An exhibition of Colorado printmakers featuring contemporary and traditional printmaking methods.

Friday May 3, 5-8 Exhibit Opening at Mitchell Museum

Saturday May 4, 10-4.  Interactive printmaking demos and classes - Click here for full detail and class registration!

Printmaking is a process-based medium that typically revolves around the printing press, a piece of heavy machinery usually with limited access. Because of this challenge, printmakers discover their community at a university or college, a public arts center or a garage, eagerly sharing information and resources.  Uncommon Collective refers to the printmakers in this show who are spread throughout the state, yet are all part of the same family. The content that drives each artist’s work is unique, and the need for comradery within the medium is present for all.

This exhibition is in conjunction with the 2024 Month of Printmaking (Mo'Print), a biennial celebration of printmaking meant to educate and inspire, showcasing contemporary and traditional printmaking. Over the years the event has expanded to communities beyond the Denver area, including a broad range of artists. During Mo'Print, printmaking takes center stage at art galleries, art centers, and other venues across Colorado. Kuehl Fine Art & The  A.R. Mitchell Museum are an integral part of bringing the celebration of printmaking to Southern Colorado.

Featuring Artists: Jennifer Ghormley  co-curator (Denver), Johanna Mueller co-curator (Greeley), Theresa Haberkorn (Boulder), Victoria Eubanks (Denver), Judy Gardner (Arvada), Katharine McGuinness (Denver), Melanie Yazzie (Erie), Carol Till (Wheat Ridge), Jean Gumpper (Colorado Springs), Mark Lunning (Denver), Joshua Butler (Grand Junction), Tony Holmquist (Durango), Amanda Palmer (Trinidad ), Arna Miller   (Trinidad), Rhiannon Alpers (Denver)
