Beverly Moran "Oyùškeya ùnpi ("Freedom")"

$44,700.00

Traditional Art, 30 1/2" x 19 1/2" (Horse Mask Only). Price includes accompanying horse blanket & horse model.

This unique one-of-kind work of art is inspired by our Súnkawakĥá (horse) and the spirit of Kimímela (butterfly).  Guided by grace, beauty, and the power to create and transform, the butterfly inspires us to live boldly and to move through this world in a good way.  The horse is essential to the sustainability of our Lakota people, allowing us to experience true freedom and prosperity.   Our Lakota women have dedicated their lives to honoring the horse through various works of art and elaborate regalia, often decorating and adorning our horses with sacred symbolism.  Centered in this fully beaded horse mask is a geometric butterfly motif.  This butterfly represents the Lakota Women’s feminine strength, resilience, and bravery. All the beadwork is hand stitched directly onto a traditionally tanned deer hide utilizing size 13 charolette glass seed beads.  The mask is embellished with imitation Red Tail Hawk feathers and imitation eagle plumes.  Additional accents include white mane horse hair tassels and edge beading with Size 2mm black crystal tourmaline.
