Emily Boksenbaum "Be A Legend"

$3,500.00

32” H x 37” H x 3” D, Leather, metal, paint

“Be A Legend” depicts the stunningly talented Katie Coker, one of very few female bronc riders in the US, in her element. Katie’s “work” encompasses an entire lifestyle. The physical labor, athleticism, and grit that it takes to maintain being her kind of cowgirl, is limitless. During the summer and winter Katie competes in rodeos and skijor competitions. She travels often for work but tends to the Last Dollar Ranch outside of Telluride to earn her coin and to live with the horses. This piece represents her relationship to her work. It is a pair of chaps - the barrier between herself and the horse she rides. The graphic depictions show the type of physical work she does on the ranch, including fence repair, cleaning the barn, and horse shoeing. Her love of riding and competing is displayed on the right hand panel. These chaps took hours of work to create. Painting and repainting, sewing and inlaying, attaching studs and sewing a buck stitch. The work hours logged to create the piece mirror the amount of work Katie performs each day. Chaps fringe flying, braid high in the air, Katie goes hard, making sure the world knows she is alive.
