Katherine Martinez "One Run at a Time"

$1,200.00

12” x 12”, Acrylic

Cutting is a complex sport that requires a cowgirl to make constant adjustments to succeed. Square! Cover the Eye! Draw! Hold the Line! With so much to handle at once, it is hardly surprising that riders occasionally let the cattle get past them and back to the herd. This painting shows a clinic attendee’s run where the cow got away, and serves as a reminder that there is more to learn in the mistakes than the successes. While watching Barbra Schulte, a world-class champion cutter, trainer, clinician, and author of the highly touted books “Cutting, One Run at a Time” and “The Gift,” teach other cowgirls the art of cutting, I was impressed with her students’ willingness to be vulnerable in the arena, to make mistakes, and to learn from those mistakes and from Barbra’s expertise. These cowgirls showed incredible sportsmanship and an indominable drive to hone their craft one run at a time.
