Morgan Buckert "Mockingbird"

$6,300.00

12"x8"x14"

The cool, but humid wind blowing in from the Gulf of Mexico makes the miles and miles of native grasses sway under a cloudless sky. “Mockingbird” custom cowboy boots captures four of those native grasses found within the Coastal Bend Prairie of South Texas: Windmill Grass, Big Bluestem, Indiangrass, and Switch Grass. From insects and wildlife, to cattle and horses, and the generations of people who have lived off the land for millennia, native grasses provide the basis of all life. Using traditional cowboy boot inlay/overlay and stitching techniques, Morgan constructed these boots with moss ostrich, sky kidskin, forest, sand, and sage kangaroo, and mint frog. Working with Morgan’s sister, Andrea Wilson, Straw Boss for Wexford Ranches, where they grew up outside of Victoria, Texas, they chose to highlight the native grasses of the Coastal Bend Prairie, which Andrea has been working to preserve and restore. Maintaining this landscape provides a home for keystone species like Attwater’s Prairie Chickens, millions of migratory birds and whitetail deer, as well as provides healthy range for cattle. It was a a thoughtful process to turn the tool of the rancher into a canvas to represent what it means to work as a rancher.
