Nancy J Davis "Cowgirl Accoutrements"

$1,800.00

Oil, 24"x18"; 30"x24" with frame

My model for this painting is Kim Valentine, of the Davis Arch Ranch in Eastern New Mexico. Kim and her husband, Enoch work the ranch, while raising two young daughters, future horsewomen. Kim is beautiful and strong and the perfect example for this show, Women’s Work. She and I have sometimes talked about how hard-working ranch women aren’t always recognized outside their family and community. Kim and I have always known those ranch women who ride, gathering cattle all day, sorting, vaccinating, and branding calves. That woman then unsaddles and turns out her horse, cooks dinner, tucks her kids in, starts laundry, then sweeps and mops the kitchen floor, finishing around 10 PM. And she is often saddled up and ready to gather at first light the next morning, after having started dinner in the slow cooker at 4:30 AM.
